Porsche 918 Spyder – Hybrid Super Car
After overwhelming responses during its debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show and Auto China in Beijing, the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG gave the “go ahead” yesterday to the mid-engined hybrid plug-in super car. Originally, just a case study on a perfect balance of traditional combustion engine and electric powered, the 918 Spyder’s 500-hp V8 engine works in tandem with 3 electric motors at a total output of 160 kW. This translates to a fuel consumption of 94 miles per gallon (mpg) and a CO2 emission of 70 grams per kilometer, or in layman’s term, an exotic car with CO2 footprint of a compact plug-in hybrid.
Development will start in in Weissach, Germany with production facility at Zuffenhausen, Germany. Details to come later this year on launch dates, product information, units availability and price range.---freshnessmag
